Behaviour of an Arc Crossing a Line
نویسنده
چکیده
In two-dimensional Euclidean space, we examine behaviour of an arc when it crosses a vertical line. There are three types when an arc enters into a line, which are: “Left-In”, “Right-In” and “Oscillating-In”. Also, there are three types when an arc goes out from a line, which are: “Left-Out”, “Right-Out” and “Oscillating-Out”. If an arc is a special polygonal arc, there are only two types for each case, entering in and going out. They are “Left-In” and “Right-In” for entering in, and “Left-Out” and “Right-Out” for going out.

A Curve with No Simple Crossings by Segments
We construct a closed Jordan curve γ ⊂ R so that γ∩S is uncountable whenever S is a line segment whose endpoints are contained in different connected components of R \ γ. We say that a Jordan arc σ ⊂ R crosses a compact set K ⊂ R if the two endpoints of σ are in different connected components of R \ K. Clearly any arc crossing K must intersect K in at least one point of K. If the intersection c...
متن کاملMinimizing the Number of Arcs Linking a Permutation of Points in the Plane
Given a finite set of points P in R and a permutation of P , f : P → P , what is the minimum number of arcs required to connect the points of P such that every point p ∈ P is adjacent to f(p) along an arc and no two arcs cross? We show this question is NP-complete. 1 Problem Definition An arc consists of a closed continuous subset of a circle in the plane (the subset may be a complete circle). ...
متن کاملCOLLAPSE BEHAVIOUR OF PLATES UNDER THRUST
In line with the current research on the ultimate strength assessment of ship hull girders, careful understanding of the collapse behaviour of unstiffened plate elements within the ship hull girders is an important and necessary task. In this paper, the collapse behaviour of unstiffened plates under longitudinal and transverse thrust is studied by elastoplastic large deflection FEM and the char...
متن کاملMonotone Crossing Number
The monotone crossing number of G is defined as the smallest number of crossing points in a drawing of G in the plane, where every edge is represented by an x-monotone curve, that is, by a connected continuous arc with the property that every vertical line intersects it in at most one point. It is shown that this parameter can be strictly larger than the classical crossing number cr(G), but it ...
متن کاملAnalysis of Pedestrian Road Crossing Behaviour in Urban Areas
The objective of this research is the analysis of pedestrians behaviour along entire trips in urban road networks, with focus on their interaction with the traffic and the road environment while crossing roads. For this purpose, a special field survey was designed and carried out, which involved the recording of pedestrians road crossing behaviour along entire trips in real time by means of cam...
